05/19 - NanoMaterials Conference to Focus on Commercialization

(WARRENDALE, PA, USA) Nanomaterials that drive opportunities for high volume production will be the focus of “Commercialization of NanoMaterials 2006” to be held September 18-20 in the materials rich region of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Five organizations are developing the conference: Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center; Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development; Atlantic NanoForum; American Chemistry Council; and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS).

“Commercialization of NanoMaterials 2006” will present advances that facilitate the evolution of coating, structural and functional materials, and materials industries, through nanotechnology. Presentations will be made by Fortune 500 companies primed for high volume applications in nanomaterials, including: Air Products; Alcoa; Bayer MaterialScience; DuPont; General Electric; Kennametal; Mine Safety Appliances; PPG Industries; Timken; and United States Steel.

In addition to industry, universities such as Carnegie Mellon, Lehigh, Pitt, and Penn State will present their research and development on commercializing technologies. Panel discussions on commercialization case studies, intellectual property strategies, and environmental, health and safety considerations will also occur. The three-day conference will also feature workshops, keynote addresses and a tour of the NanoScale Fabrication and Characterization Facility at the University of Pittsburgh.

For more details about this conference, or to schedule an interview with an organizer or presenter, contact Nancy Commella, TMS communications manager, at (800) 759-4TMS, ext. 218, or e-mail ncommella@tms.org.

TMS is the professional organization encompassing the entire range of materials in science and engineering, from minerals processing and primary metals production to basic research and the advanced applications of materials. Included among its professional and student members are metallurgical and materials engineers, scientists, researchers, educators and administrators from more than 70 countries on six continents.
