Take Part in the Structural Intermetallics Symposium Starting April 28

ISSI-3 (rescheduled)
Jackson Hole, WY
April 28-May 2, 2002

TMS is pleased to announce that the Third International Symposium on Structural Intermetallics is rescheduled for April 28-May 2, 2002 and will be held at the Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, as previously planned. To expedite the process of conveying all the information to you, the advance mailer will only be available electronically.

This international conference on the research, development, design uses, and application of intermetallic compounds and composites is held every four years. The four-day conference provides information on matters that will enhance the progress of these materials and brings together not only researchers, but also potential users of such materials.

The conference emphasizes the role of affordability, reliability, and design in developing new materials for use in aerospace applications. Invited and contributed presentations outline the design and business constraints associated with the introduction of new materials, address reliability and performance issues specific to intermetallic alloys, and highlight recent advances in processing-structure-property relations in these alloys. This conference provides a forum in which engineering designers can dialog with materials and process engineers, scientists, and alloy developers.

Register now and take advantage of the advance registration fee discount, which is $100.00 off the on-site registration fee. The proceedings publication, available as a print and CD-ROM package, is being offered to attendees only at a discounted price of $125; that’s 30-50% off of the regular member and nonmember prices. Advance registration deadline is Monday, April 8, 2002.

Please visit the ISSI-3 web site to register for the conference and make your housing accommodations at the Snow King Resort. The housing deadline was Thursday, March 28, 2002.

Exhibit, Present, or Attend Sessions at the 2002 Electronic Materials Conference

Electronic Materials Conference
Santa Barbara, CA
June 26-28, 2002

THE CONFERENCE
The 44th Electronic Materials Conference (EMC) is the premier annual forum for presentations of current interest and significance to the preparation and characterization of electronic materials. Electronic materials are defined as relating to, produced, or operated by the controlled flow of electrons through a semiconductor, a gas, or a free space along with those relating to devices, systems, or circuits that employ components such as vacuum tubes, integrated circuits, or transistors in their design. In practice, the field is something much broader. Individuals actively engaged or interested in electronic materials research and development are encouraged to submit papers and attend this meeting. Attendees include students, professors, scientists, engineers, researchers, technicians, R&D managers, and product managers.

The abstract deadline has past, but the late news abstract deadline is June 3, 2002.

THE EXHIBIT
Reach a key electronic materials audience with a space reservation in the 44th Electronic Materials Conference Exhibition. The exhibit will feature products, technology, and services involved in the preparation and characterization of electronic materials. The exhibition is an ideal opportunity for suppliers to network with the highly specified audiences of the Device Research and Electronic Materials Conferences..

The exhibit will be held at the University of California, Santa Barbara, from Wednesday, June 26, to Thursday, June 27, 2002. Exhibit hours will be scheduled to complement the technical program. To reserve space at the exhibit, contact Cindy A. Wilson at (724) 776-9000, ext. 231 or at wilson@tms.org.

For more information on the conference or the exhibit, please visit the conference web site.

The advance mailer will be sent out before the end of April.

Subscribe to the Journal of Electronic Materials or Purchase Special Issues

While the Electronic Materials Conference (EMC) publishes no formal conference proceedings, conference abstracts will be published in the Journal of Electronic Materials (JEM), a publication of the Electronic Materials Committee of TMS and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. JEM was created to serve as the publication of the EMC and encourages both presenters and attendees of this conference to submit manuscripts on their work.

JEM reports on critical new developments in the electronics field as well as traditional uses of semiconductors, magnetic alloys, and insulators. This peer-reviewed journal also introduces and evaluates new applications and instrumentation for laser, optical, and display materials.

Each year, JEM publishes several special issues, which contain symposia proceedings papers from the EMC and other conferences, as well as topically relevant invited papers and reviewed submissions. To view a listing of JEM special issues from 1994-2002, visit the JEM web site.

To subscribe, contact a TMS Subscriptions Representative by phone at 1-800-759-4867 (in the U.S.) or (724) 776-9000, ext. 251, by e-mail at publications@tms.org, or on-line in the TMS Document Center.

Register for the 2002 Device Research Conference, Coordinated with 2002 EMC

Device Research Conference

The 60th Device Research Conference (DRC) brings together scientists, engineers, and students to discuss new and exciting breakthroughs and advances in the field of device research. The conference will be coordinated with the 2002 Electronic Materials Conference (EMC), also to be held at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Papers are being actively solicited on a variety of novel device structures including micromachined devices, silicon CMOS/BiCMOS; silicon scaled and ultrasmall devices; wireless/microwave devices; wide bandgap devices; and much more! The abstract deadline has past, but the late news abstract deadline is May 31, 2002.

For more information, please visit the conference web site.

The advance mailer will be sent out before the end of April.
