1. TMS Establishes New Committees
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TMS has formed three new committees that offer members an opportunity for society involvement. Any individual interested in becoming involved with these committees should contact the committee chairs (listed below). For more information on these committees, see the annual meeting coverage in the May issue of JOM.
NANOMATERIALS COMMITTEE
The new Nanomaterials Committee, part of the Electronic, Magnetic & Photonic Materials Division, will focus on the relationship between structure, property, and performance on a microscopic level in functional materials. The committee held its first symposium, the Science and Technology of Functional Nanostructures, at the 2003 TMS Annual Meeting.
For more information on how to get involved, contact the chair of the Nanomaterials Committee, Ramamoorthy Ramesh, at rr136@umail.umd.edu.
NANOMECHANICAL MATERIALS BEHAVIOR COMMITTEE
The new Nanomechanical Materials Behavior Committee, sponsored by the TMS Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division (MPMD), will focus on nanomechanical behavior of metals as it relates to the manufacture of microelectronic devices. In addition, this new technical committee will place a strong emphasis on the cooperation of graduate students with veteran TMS members.
For more information on how to get involved, contact the chair of the Nanomechanical Materials Behavior Committee, Neville R. Moody, at nrmoody@sandia.gov.
GLOBAL INNOVATIONS COMMITTEE
The MPMD has also formed a new committee called the Global Innovations Committee, which will be responsible for organizing the MPMD Global Innovations Symposium, held at the TMS Annual Meeting each year. Details and the history of the Global Innovations Symposia are described in the November 2002 issue of JOM. The symposia are organized with contributions from all MPMD technical committees.
For more information on how to get involved, contact the chair of the Global Innovations Committee, John Smugeresky, at smug@sandia.gov.
