6. Submit Annual Meeting Papers to TMS Letters
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Submitting a paper for the 2004 TMS Annual Meeting? Then consider publishing it in TMS Letters.
TMS Letters is a new, peer-reviewed journal offered exclusively on-line to all TMS members as well as nonmember subscribers. The journal will consist of two-page technical updates of research presented at TMS meetings and not published in any other book or journal. The first issue of TMS Letters will be published following the 2004 TMS Annual Meeting and will consist exclusively of papers presented at this conference.
If you are submitting an abstract for a 2004 TMS Annual Meeting symposium that will not be publishing formal proceedings, consider submitting a two-page paper, including text and graphics, to TMS Letters. Author instructions and directions for submitting papers will be available later this year. Look for more information in upcoming issues of TMS e-News.
13. TMS e-News: Simple Formatting Reaches More Readers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A number of readers have asked why TMS e-News does not use text formatting and images to enhance the newsletter’s appearance. The answer is this: TMS provides e-News in a simple format to maximize service to its readers. When formatting and images are added to a newsletter, many e-mail recipients receive a distorted version of the intended message, as not all e-mail systems handle these embellishments as elegantly as others. Also, images add to the size of the message, thereby causing potential download delays to recipients with slower e-mail connections. By keeping e-News’s format as simple as possible, TMS can keep more readers informed about important society deadlines and events.
