1. TMS Launches First On-Line Short Course
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In November, TMS launched its first web-based short course: Metal-Matrix Composites. The course is made up of six modules that incorporate audio, graphical, and text materials to create a thorough multi-media presentation. Instructor Warren Hunt, founder and president of Aluminum Consultants Group, guides students through a series of PowerPoint slides that include helpful notes and illustrations.
The on-line format of the course allows students to learn at times that are convenient for them and avoids the travel expenses associated with traditional seminars and courses. Students enjoy the additional benefit of being able to pause or rewind the demonstration easily to catch information they may have otherwise missed.
Individuals may enroll in the course at a price of $325 for TMS members, $450 for nonmembers, and $225 for TMS student members. Individuals receive access to the course for 30 days. Organizations may access the course through a site license at a price of $995 for universities and $1,995 for corporations. A site license provides access to the course for an unlimited number of organization members for a period of 120 days.
A sampling of course material, including audio and visual portions of the presentation, can be accessed through the following web site:
http://www.tms.org/education/ceo-mmc.html
