3. AIME Functions Become Part of Member Society Annual Meetings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 2003, the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME), of which TMS is a member society, relocated from New York to Littleton, Colorado, to share a building with the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration. With this move and the associated reduction in staff, policy changes were instituted by the AIME Board of Trustees that included the elimination of the AIME Annual Banquet.
In lieu of the banquet, AIME awards will now be presented at the meeting of the award recipient’s member society. Additionally, there will be an AIME past presidents function at each of the member society meetings (typically with the member society’s past presidents function). Finally, the AIME keynote session/speaker will rotate among the four member society annual meetings. It will be held each year at the member society annual meeting of the current AIME president. This year, TMS, the member society of AIME President Robert Wagoner, will host the AIME keynote at the 2004 TMS Annual Meeting held this month in Charlotte, North Carolina.
For additional information about these events, contact:
Michele Gottwald, Executive Assistant, AIME
Phone: (303) 948-4256
4. March JOM Features Modeling, Simulation, Characterization, and Movies
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The March issue of JOM features technical articles on materials prognosis: integrating damage-state awareness and mechanism-based prediction (sponsored by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory), advances in process modeling, and modeling and simulating engineering processes via computational fluid dynamics.

This month will also include a special feature spotlighting the most significant material moments in movies as selected by JOM Editor, James J. Robinson. This article can be viewed on-line at:
http://www.tms.org/pubs/journals/jom/0403/Robinson/Robinson.html

To coincide with the article, JOM is sponsoring a drawing in which 2004 TMS Annual Meeting attendees can win DVDs of selected materials-related movies. Every meeting attendee will receive a raffle ticket with their registration packet. To enter the drawing, attendees simply drop the ticket off at the JOM booth in the exhibit hall at the annual meeting.

TMS members and non-member electronic subscribers can view the entire March issue on-line today through the JOM section of the TMS Document Center at:
http://doc.tms.org

For further reading on the issues discussed in the March issue of JOM, TMS offers 70 publications related to advanced processing, computer applications and process control, and modeling and simulation. See the Publications@TMS ad on pages two and three of the March issue for a sampling of relevant titles. For a complete listing of related titles, go to the subject index of the Proceedings, Books, and Papers section of the TMS Document Center at:
http://doc.tms.org

5. JOM Book Review Program Goes On-Line
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JOM book reviews have found a new home on the JOM web site. Formerly published three to four times per year in the End Notes section of JOM, book reviews will now be published on a regular basis on the JOM web site, allowing more reviews to be published and making the reviews available to a wider audience. There are no restrictions on access to the site, meaning that members, JOM subscribers, and non-subscribers alike may read the published book reviews.
The new web site includes a complete listing of book reviews submitted to JOM in the past two years, as well as a list of current books available for review, on-line book review request forms, instructions and requirements for reviewers, and an on-line book review submission form.
View the new site today at:
http://www.tms.org/pubs/journals/JOM/reviews/index.shtml
6. Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining Services Available to TMS Members
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Through a partnership with the UK-based Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3), TMS members can gain access to selected IOM3 member benefits for only $30. Participating in this e-partnership program provides TMS members access to two on-line services offered by IOM3: the on-line careers development service, which allows members to post their career interests and career history for potential employers to view, and the materials information service, an information resource service that provides support in finding answers to difficult materials science and engineering problems.

The $30 membership fee will provide TMS members with access to these two services for the remainder of 2004. To participate in the e-partnership program or for more information, contact:
Sandy Boltey, Member Services Representative
Phone: (724) 776-9000, ext. 241

7. TMS Invites Users to a Sneak Preview of CMS Plus
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In April, a group of volunteers will participate in an on-line test conference to sample the new on-line tool, CMS Plus, an upgraded version of the on-line TMS Conference Management System (CMS). In its current form, CMS is a tool that conference organizers, symposium organizers, session chairs, and presenters use to collect and organize abstracts, sessions, and symposia for various TMS-sponsored conferences.
CMS Plus is an upgraded version of the CMS site that provides easier navigation, better service, and additional features. One of the most significant new features of CMS Plus will be the ability for symposium organizers not only to administer symposia more effectively, but also to administer the organization of proceedings volumes, a feature not available in the current edition of CMS.
Individuals participating in the test meeting will be assigned roles, such as symposium organizer, proceedings editor, or presenter. During the on-line meeting, participants will be able to familiarize themselves with the new system’s capabilities and identify any potential problems with the site before it officially goes on-line. To participate in the test conference, sign up at the following web site:
http://www.tms.org/CMSPlus-TestTeam.html
