100 Years of the Griffith Fracture Criteria (By Invitation Only)

Manuscript Submission Deadline: January 01, 2021
Guest Editor: Megan Cordill
Co-Guest Editors: Jennifer Carter
,
Publication Date: June 2021
Keywords: Fundamentals, Mechanical Properties, Modeling and Simulation, Fracture
Scope: While today’s materials scientists know the great impact of the Griffith criteria, many may not be aware of how little effect it initially had on basic and applied research. It was not until the “Space Race” in the late 1950s that basic research was able to widely take advantage of the Griffith methodology and establish the ASTM-E-24 fracture toughness standard. This special topic will showcase the reach of Griffith fracture criteria throughout the world today.
