Scope: With an increase in the use of batteries for energy storage, the volume of batteries being disposed of is rapidly increasing. These batteries require recycling to recover the contained metals. Pyrometallurgical processes have long been used to recycle lead batteries and, more recently, lithium batteries. This topic focuses on advances in the existing and new processes for recycling batteries using pyrometallurgy.
