Scope: This special topic deals with advanced thin films, metallic and semiconducting nanomaterials with applications in sensing, display technologies, photovoltaics and biological systems. Furthermore, it encompasses coatings and engineered surfaces for reducing corrosion and wear as well as making use of lubricant-free (green) production and coatings for biomedical and healthcare applications. It covers all aspects of materials development by thermomechanical treatments, processing and their characterization; including the elaboration of advanced hybrid systems for improving the mechanical properties of lightweight materials as well as structures, in combination with metals and non-metals, for automotive, biological and energy-related applications.
