Advanced Materials for Stationary Electrical Energy Storage

In July 2010, TMS was contracted to assist the U.S. Department of Energy with overcoming issues related to deploying stationary electrical energy storage (EES). Stationary EES is a critical enabling technology for effectively and economically integrating renewable energy generation methods into the electrical grid. When the wind turbine stops turning or the solar panel has no sun to capture, EES “smooths out” this variability by providing a means to store energy for backup power, load shifting, transmission and distribution deferral, and energy arbitrage needs.
