ABOUT THE COVER
Everyone loves a plant tour, and Tippins has come up with a clever way to
transport countless tourists through a steel rolling mill--virtual reality.
Here, the visitor still dons something akin to a hard hat and safety
goggles--headgear that provides a computer-simulated aural and visual
experience that emulates the real thing, but without the hazards. The system was
unveiled
at an October exhibition in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For details, turn to page
12.
