JOM: Volume 48, Number 7--July 1996

ABOUT THE COVER
In recent years, JOM has paid considerable attention to the development of alternative materials to replace iron and steel in automotive applications. In this issue, however, we take a look at what steel is doing to effectively combat its formidable competition. To illustrate this "Car Wars" topic, the cover features a sparking scene of a steel body-in-white on an automotive assembly line. The photograph comes to JOM courtesy of the American Iron and Steel Institute.
