TMS 2015 Strategic Plan
In March 2012, TMS instituted a new Strategic Plan to guide the society in its growth and development through 2015. The plan consists of five strategic goals, which can be considered in two complimentary groups:
- 1. Membership Goals (Goals 1 and 2)
- 2. Technical Goals (Goals 3, 4, and 5)
The five overall goals are listed below and list specific ways TMS plans to meet each goal:
#1 - Enhance our status as a volunteer-centric society
- Achieve a diversity balance in TMS leadership positions to mirror the diversity balance of the society
- Expand the pool of volunteers by increasing the number of full professional members in the society
- Thank every volunteer and their organization for their volunteerism

#2 - Be the destination society for young professionals: technically, professionally and socially
- Triple the size of the Young Leaders Professional Development program over the 2011 baseline
- Provide unique programming and networking opportunities for young professionals
- Establish mentoring and leadership programs to support young professionals and increase the number of young professional members

#3 - Sustain and grow our core as The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society
- Identify and support core growth areas across the five Technical Divisions
- Develop new or enhanced initiatives, products, and/or services from amongst the core growth areas
#4 - Advance materials solutions for energy and environmental challenges
- Be recognized as the lead society in sustainable materials/manufacturing, inclusive of materials recovery and recycling
- Provide platforms to advance the recommendations of the “Linking Transformational Materials and Processing for an Energy Efficient and Low-Carbon Economy” report

#5 - Be the recognized home for and advocate of materials and manufacturing innovation
- Enhance our position as the home for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering
- Be recognized as the organizational hub for intersociety activities in the materials/manufacturing innovation area
- Establish new initiatives, products, and services for meeting industry needs in materials/manufacturing innovation
