More than 150 individuals have already learned from this introductory workshop, which helps to familiarize participants with current additive manufacturing (AM) processes; current AM practice for metals, polymers, and ceramics; modeling of AM processes, microstructural evolution, and service properties; and current challenges and research opportunities.

As the Additive Manufacturing industry moves towards series industrial production, the need for standardization covering all aspects of the technology and for robust qualification and certification (Q&C) procedures for AM components continues to grow. This short course reviews the current standardization landscape, as well as Q&C considerations and best practices from industry and regulatory perspectives. Current standardization gaps, challenges, and opportunities will be also discussed, along with additional insights into evolving Q&C methods and framework.

This full-day workshop, aimed at experienced Atom-Probe Tomography (APT) users, will provide a comprehensive view of the state-of-the-art of the atom-probe technique. The course will cover the basic physics of field-evaporation and time-of-flight mass spectroscopy, a review of sample preparation techniques, and best practice analytical parameters for a variety of materials. The course will conclude with an intensive hands-on session covering advanced features of the CAMECA interactive visualization and analysis software.

This workshop will provide basic information on the safe use of powders, as well as handling and storage to maximize quality of the powders and consolidated parts. Using a combination of instructor presentations and open discussion sessions, this workshop will help attendees examine multiple topics including powder science, safety regulations and guidelines, best lab and manufacturing practices, and case studies from industry and research.
About TMS2019 Professional Development Events
The 2019 slate of courses and workshops has been developed to meet the needs of materials science and engineering professionals and to offer creative solutions for solving industry challenges, generating cost savings, and expanding skillsets needed to advance personal and professional knowledge via the latest technology and best practices. Instructors for each program have been selected based on their expertise as regarded subject matter experts.
For each of the events listed above, please note the following::
- Minimum numbers of class enrollment are necessary to conduct a course and advance registration is encouraged. Should a course need to be cancelled due to low enrollment, TMS will provide as much advance notice as possible and provide full refunds to participants.
- A refund, minus a $50 processing fee, will be given for all cancellations requested in writing before the advance registration deadline of February 1, 2019.
- Course materials are included in the registration fee and will be distributed as digital downloads prior to or after the conclusion of the program as provided by instructors.
- All times for TMS2019 professional development courses will take place in local time—U.S. Central Time Zone (UTC -05:00).
