Recipients: 2005 EPD Extraction & Processing Distinguished Lecture Award

The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Extraction & Processing Division Extraction & Processing Lecture Award, established in 1955, recognizes an eminent individual in the field of the extraction and processing of nonferrous metals with an invitation to present a comprehensive lecture at the TMS Annual Meeting.

Recipient PhotoChristopher W. Bale

Lecture Title: “Applications of Computational Thermodynamics in the Real World”

Biography: Christopher Bale and Arthur Pelton co-founded the Centre de Recherche en Calcul Thermochimique, which they co-direct, at the University of Montreal in 1982. Dr. Bale was President of the Canadian Metallurgical Society in 1988, is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Mining Metallurgy, and received the Canadian Metal Chemistry Award in 2000.

Lecture Title: “Applications of Computational Thermodynamics in the Real World”

Biography: Dr. Pelton is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, an E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellow, a Fellow of ASM International and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum, and a recipient of the CODATA award, the Gibbs Triangle Award of Calphad, and the Hume-Rothery prize of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
