TMS Student Activities

Network Like a Pro Panel Discussion

Date: October 3, 2023
Time: 12:45 p.m.–2:00 p.m.
Location: Hyatt Regency, Franklin BCD 

Attendees will benefit from the experiences shared by panelists from a diverse group of professionals, followed by a meet and greet to apply their learnings. Students and emerging professionals are both encouraged to attend. Participants will learn how to grow a personal network, how to leverage events to network, and the do's and don'ts of networking. Panelists will include: Brad Boyce, 2023 TMS President; Elizabeth Dickey, Carnegie Mellon University; and Paul Prichard, Kennametal. This event is presented by the TMS Emerging Professionals and Professional Development Committees.

Material Advantage (MA) Activities

2023 Undergraduate Student Speaking Contest

Date: October 1, 2023
Semi-Final Time: 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.
Final Time: 3:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.
Location: Hyatt Regency

Come showcase your presentation skills by making a short technical presentation about an aspect of materials science and engineering that you find exciting. Presentation can be based upon work that you have done in a class or internship, or simply on a technical topic that interests you.

Student Networking Reception

Date: October 1, 2023
Time: 6:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
Location: Hyatt Regency, Regency Ballroom

Students will have the opportunity to interact with each other and with industry professionals in a relaxed setting. Refreshments will be provided. This event is open to all students and faculty advisors. No tickets or reservations are required.

2023 Undergraduate Student Poster Contest

Date: October 3, 2023
Location: Greater Columbus Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A

The purpose of this contest is to encourage undergraduate students to present their undergraduate research experiences and to improve their communication skills. The poster entered must be the work of an undergraduate and completed during the undergraduate education of the student. Learn more here.

2023 Graduate Student Poster Contest

Date: October 3, 2023
Location: Greater Columbus Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A

The purpose of the contest, open to current graduate students pursuing M.S. or Ph.D. degrees, is to recognize superior research performed during graduate study. Posters must be accepted for the MS&T technical program to be entered into the contest. Entries will be displayed in the general poster session. Learn more here.
