Our Mission

The mission of the TMS Foundation is to support the development of professionals in the minerals, metals, and materials community within the context of our global society by providing scholarships to the field’s most promising students and investing in the future of the profession and the industries it serves. The Foundation also funds programs that assist young professionals in attaining the highest level of technical, professional, and leadership development.

Our Goal

To ensure the long-term sustainability and impact of the TMS Foundation programs, the TMS Foundation Board of Trustees committed to a goal of raising $1,000,000 over three years in February 2020. With the support of our generous donors, the TMS Foundation will:

• Double the number of TMS Family Care Grants
  Established in 2017, the TMS Family Care Grants program assists individuals who may not otherwise be able to present their work at a TMS annual meeting, due to extra expenses incurred to care for a child, an elderly relative or a person with disabilities while they travel. Funds can also be used by attendees who need personal assistance or equipment to accommodate a disability. .
• Re-Establish the TMS Presidential Scholarship
  The TMS Foundation seeks to permanently endow this prestigious award, with one undergraduate student majoring in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering, or minerals processing/extraction programs selected annually to receive a scholarship valued at $5,000. Learn more.
• Double the number of TMS Young Leader Professional Development Awards
  The TMS Young Leaders Professional Development Awards program supports early career professionals in developing beneficial peer relationships, nurturing a productive professional network, and building leadership skills by actively engaging with TMS and their profession. Learn more.
