The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering in the College of Engineering and Computing at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a tenure-track, open rank faculty position beginning Fall 2018. Outstanding candidates are sought with expertise in materials science and engineering with specialization in computational materials science, thermodynamics and kinetics of materials, and energy materials. Candidates with backgrounds in experimental, computational or theoretical expertise in above areas are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field, demonstrated record of scholarly work commensurate with rank and commitment to teaching a diverse set of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to establish a strong and externally-funded research program of high visibility. It is expected that candidate will actively contribute to the research environment that leads to collaboration between multiple departments, colleges and areas of pre-eminence research across the University. Faculty for consideration of a tenured appointment must have national/international recognition. The candidate will work closely with the Advanced Materials Engineering Research Institute (AMERI) and Center for the Study of Matter at Extreme Conditions (CeSMEC).  AMERI (https://ameri.fiu.edu) has extensive laboratory facilities for micro/nano fabrication and design, materials characterization including a class 100 clean room. CeSMEC is an interdisciplinary center for frontiers research in the areas of materials science, high-pressure physics and geophysics with linkages to metallurgy, ceramics and chemistry.
