Prepare Your Award Nominations by April 1
Who would you honor with a TMS award? We’d like to know. Help us to find the best candidates for one of our new TMS awards or introduce us to deserving candidates for our established TMS awards. Nominations for most 2020 TMS Honors & Awards are due April 1.
For this year’s awards cycle, TMS has announced four new awards, all of which are now accepting applications:
In addition, TMS is currently accepting nominations for more than 50 established awards that recognize lifetime achievements, exceptional mid-career accomplishments, and promising career starts. There are also awards devoted to excellence in specific technology areas, awards that recognize service to the Society, and more. Browse the full listing of TMS awards and learn how to submit a nomination at the TMS Honors and Awards website
Keep in mind that compiling a successful nomination package takes time, so please review our Tips for Preparing Nominations
and allow yourself adequate time to compose your letter of support, complete the application form, and request letters of reference. Specific nomination requirements vary for each award, so be sure to review the necessary qualifications and application materials for the award of your choice.
Submit Journal Articles for 3D Materials Science Topical Collections
The TMS journals Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation, JOM,
and Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A
are planning a set of coordinated topical collections on the subject of 3D materials science. The deadline to submit papers on various aspects of this topic has been extended to May 1, 2019.
Please submit your work now to be included in these special topical collections, to be published in the January–March 2020 issues of the journals.
This unique collaboration, introduced at the 4th International Congress on 3D Materials Science (3DMS 2018), is open to the public for contributions. Each journal will focus on a different aspect of 3D materials science.
Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation
encourages submissions on new experimental tools and techniques for 3D materials science, data descriptor articles of novel data sets, 3D data processing and reconstruction algorithms, and descriptions of software for simulation. As appropriate, authors are strongly encouraged to separately publish the data and code supporting their articles whenever possible. Alexis Lewis
of the U.S. National Science Foundation and Henry Proudhon
of the Mines Paristech Centre Des Matériaux, France, are serving as topical collection guest editors. Submit your work here
; be sure to choose “Additional Information” in the New Submission menu and indicate the “3D Materials Science” topical collection. For author instructions and other information on this journal, visit the Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation web page
encourages submissions from academia, government laboratories, or industry on the application of materials modeling and processing-microstructure-property relationships in 3D to manufacturing processes. Matthew Miller,
Cornell University, United States, and Philip Withers,
The Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials, United Kingdom, are serving as topical collection guest editors. Submit your work here
, and remember to select “2001: 3D Materials Science” in the dropdown menu for Section/Category. For author instructions and other information on this journal, visit the JOM web page
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A
encourages submissions on innovative characterization approaches and algorithms, computational simulations and property prediction models that employ 3D data, and new insights on materials structure and behavior that arise from 3D data. David Rowenhorst
, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, and Henning Poulsen
, Technical University of Denmark are serving as topical collection guest editors. Submit your work here
; be sure to choose the Symposium Article Type, add “3D Materials Science” in the manuscript comments box, and include a cover letter that indicates the topical collection. For author instructions and other information on this journal, visit the Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A web page
