Alexis C. Lewis directs the Materials Engineering and Processing Program in the U.S. National Science Foundation's Directorate for Engineering. After earning her bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University, she joined the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory as a National Research Council Postdoctoral Associate and subsequently became a member of the technical staff. In 2014 she joined the National Science Foundation as a program director with a focus on materials engineering, advanced manufacturing, and data, computation, and infrastructure.

Lewis has been an active member of TMS for more than 15 years, serving as chair of the Advanced Characterization, Testing and Simulation Committee, vice-chair of the Membership and Student Development Committee, and a member of the Content Development and Dissemination Committee, Diversity Committee, and numerous technical committees. She was the recipient of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) Rossiter W. Raymond Award in 2012 and the TMS Young Leaders Professional Development Award in 2013.
