The Faculty of Applied Science at UBC has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. Over this period, the Faculty has distinguished itself with excellence in teaching and research. The Faculty is now embarking on the creation of a new, undergraduate program in Manufacturing Engineering. The successful candidate(s) is expected to take a leading role in enhancing the teaching and learning environment in the Manufacturing Engineering program. This includes the development and delivery of core courses in the Manufacturing engineering curriculum, active participation in capstone design projects, development of undergraduate laboratories and enriching the learning experience of students. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate level and it is required that he/she will be highly engaged in curriculum development and pedagogical innovation and to develop and implement innovative teaching practices related to design and laboratory education. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to experience with manufacturing processes, applied digital and analogue instrumentation, material characterization and testing, data acquisition and analysis, mechatronic systems and software for mechatronics applications, advanced quality systems and statistical process control.

The Faculty is now embarking on the creation of a new, undergraduate program in Manufacturing Engineering that would be offered at both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. We are seeking dynamic, emerging leaders in the field of manufacturing whose focus for teaching and research is digital manufacturing. Building on our strengths, we aim to build strengths on both campuses in order to lead the development of innovative processes and technologies that will transform the current manufacturing landscape. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to modelling and simulation of manufacturing processes and systems, additive manufacturing, precision manufacturing, integrated computational materials and manufacturing engineering, integration of smart devices/structures in manufacturing machines and manufactured systems, artificial intelligence, deep learning and machine learning in the manufacturing environment and robot assisted manufacturing. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia invites applicants with expertise in additive manufacturing with metallic materials for a tenured/tenure-track open rank faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). The additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are already influencing a broad range of sectors, including aerospace, defense, and biomedical. At the same time, there are challenges related to process monitoring and control, integrated computational materials engineering design, as well as certification and life prediction of AM components. Candidates who specialize in experimental, computational, theoretical or a combination of approaches are welcomed.

Advancing additive manufacturing technology is an area of growing strength at UVA Engineering, which builds upon the established expertise in far-from-equilibrium processing (laser, e-beam, etc.), materials degradation (corrosion, oxidation, cracking, etc.), cyber-physical systems, and orthopedic implants. It is also noted that UVA is a charter member of the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM), along with key industry partners Airbus, Arconic/Alcoa, Rolls-Royce Aerospace, and Siemens. The position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is at the tenure-track level. We seek a faculty candidate to build a research program on synthesis of quantum materials. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in topics that include, but are not necessarily limited to, creating individually addressable electronic-state-defects (e.g. N-V centers in diamond, SiC), novel topological insulator materials, semiconductor heterostructures exhibiting quantum effects, edge states in two-dimensional materials, and other emerging directions.
