Scope: Grain refinement is a proven technique for improving the strength and plasticity of alloys. This special topic focuses on recent developments of methods and techniques for achieving grain refinement prior to and during solidification. These include mechanical methods such as ultrasonic treatment, electromagnetic processing, and high shear melt processing as well as other novel techniques for improving the effect of grain refiners. Papers from any solidification process are welcome.

Original research papers should be 3,000-9,000 words with up to 12 figures maximum; review papers should be 6,000-11,000 words with up to 20 figures maximum.
