DATES AND LOCATION

Focusing on physical metallurgy and materials, the TMS Fall Meeting '98 features a wide array of technical symposia sponsored by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). A poster session is also planned. As a greater convenience for attendees, the meeting is typically colocated with ASM International's Materials Solutions Conference. Approximately 100 technical sessions will focus on key information and successful strategies to give attendees insight into the research, development, and application of new materials processes, analysis techniques, and equipment advances.

The TMS Fall Meeting '98 will take place in Rosemont, Illinois, at the O'Hare Hilton Hotel, located at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport the hotel is the TMS headquarters for the event. All technical sessions, conference registration, and sleeping rooms will be located here. For more detail, view the Rosemont area map and the O'Hare Hilton floor plan. Regular shuttle service will be available between the O'Hare Hilton and the Rosemont Convention Center. A shuttle service schedule will be placed in the hotel lobbies and the convention center lobby.

REGISTRATION

The deadline for advance registration to attend TMS Fall Meeting '98 has passed. It is still possible to register on-site for the meeting, however.

All registration fees include admittance to all TMS programming at the O'Hare Hilton Hotel and admittance to the Materials Solutions Exposition at the Rosemont Convention Center. You may choose to pay an additional $50 bridge fee in order to also attend ASM International's Materials Solutions Conference and the ASM Heat Treating Society Conference and Expo being held concurrently at the Rosemont Convention Center.

Badges are required for admittance to all technical sessions and social functions. Badges can be picked up starting Sunday, October 11, at 12:00 noon at the registration area in the Grand Ballroom Lobby Level of the O'Hare Hilton Hotel. Confirmations will be mailed to all processed registrants. Advance registrant packets will be available for pickup during registration hours at the Registration Desk located at Lobby Level, Grand Ballroom, O'Hare Hilton. There will be a $5 processing fee for reprinting a new badge.

ATTENTION: ALL NONMEMBER REGISTRANTS
Nonmember Registrants: All non-member registrants of the TMS Fall Meeting '98 automatically receive a one-year complimentary associate membership in TMS. The applicable dues fee will be paid from your non-member registration fee.

Associate members receive all of the same benefits as members, including a subscription to the monthly journal JOM, discounts on TMS publications and conference fees, inclusion in, and access to, the Society's Membership Directory on TMS OnLine via the World Wide Web, plus an array of other personalized membership benefits and services.

Shortly after the meeting, you will receive your membership card and new member packet, along with a postal card asking for additional vital information for our records, such as birthdate, education, and work experience. Your associate membership will be activated upon completion of your registration form and payment of the non-member registration fee.

Special bonus: All new TMS members processed during the TMS Fall Meeting '98 will be entered in a drawing after the meeting for complimentary week-end lodging during the 128th TMS Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, February 28-March 4, 1999.

NOTE: These special offers to nonmember meeting registrants are extended to first-time TMS members only.

POLICIES

Cancellation Policy: Registration fees will be refunded if a written request is received before October 2, 1998. A $30 processing fee will be charged on all cancellations. Americans with Disabilities Act: TMS strongly supports the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which prohibits discrimination against, and promotes public accessibility for those with disabilities. In support of and compliance with this Act, we ask that those requiring specific equipment or services contact the TMS Meeting Services Department, at telephone (724) 776-9000, ext. 232, in advance.

Tax Deduction: An income-tax deduction is allowed for expenses for education. Allowable deductions include registration fees, travel, meals, and lodging, if undertaken to maintain and improve professional skills. Applies to U.S. registrants only. (Treas. Reg. 1.162-5).

Audio/Video Recording Policy: The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) reserves the rights to any audio and video reproduction of all presentations at every TMS-sponsored meeting. Recording of sessions (audio, video, still-photography, etc.) intended for personal use, distribution, publications, or copyright without the express written consent of TMS and the individual authors is strictly prohibited. Contact the TMS Technical Programming Department to obtain a copy of the waiver release form.

Distribution of Complimentary Concurrent Proceedings to Primary Authors: For all primary authors, as designated by each proceedings editor, the distribution of concurrent complimentary copies of the conference proceedings will occur only at the meeting site. A ticket must be presented at the designated distribution desk, located at the TMS Publications Sales area on the Mezzanine Level of the hotel. These tickets will be distributed with the authors' registration packets to those individuals designated by the editor as the primary author. TMS will accept no responsibility to provide complimentary author copies after the conference. Prior arrangements for shipping may be made and a fee of $10.00 per book must be paid in advance.

PUBLICATION SALES

Concurrent proceedings volumes from TMS Fall Meeting '98 will be on sale in the Mezzanine Level area at the O'Hare Hilton Hotel.

TECHNICAL SESSIONS

Technical sessions will begin on Monday morning, October 12, 1998, and end on Thursday, October 15, 1998. All technical sessions will be held at the O'Hare Hilton Hotel. Abstracts will be available by accessing the TMS Conference Management System (CMS) on the World Wide Web, or you may download the entire Advance Mailer in .pdf format using the free software Adobe Acrobat. If you do not have access to the World Wide Web, contact TMS Customer Service at csc@tms.org for a copy of the technical session abstracts. The abstracts will be in the final program distributed at the meeting.

POSTER SESSION

A poster session will be held in conjunction with TMS Fall Meeting '98. Presentations will be displayed on 4'x 8' poster boards, no formal or oral presentation is required. Located in the Grand Ballroom, the poster session will begin Monday, October 12, and remain in place through Wednesday, October 14.

AUTHORS' COFFEE/SLIDE PREVIEW AREA

Authors are invited to preview their slides before their technical presentation. Slide preview will be available in the International Ballroom East, Monday through Wednesday, 7:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Thursday, 7:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

SYMPOSIA ORGANIZERS WORKSHOP

At a special organizers and technical committee chairs workshop on Tuesday, October 13, 1998, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., TMS will demonstrate the Conference Management System (CMS). This presentation will familiarize organizers with the direct electronic submission of abstracts and the organization of symposia via TMS OnLine. All organizers of present and future symposia, as well as technical committee members are strongly encouraged to attend. HOTEL BUSINESS SERVICES

The O'Hare Hilton Hotel Business Services Center is a full service business center. The facility offers guests and conference attendees copying, faxing, office supplies, package receiving and shipping, and computer work stations with printing capabilities. The center is located on the lower level of the hotel and is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.-11:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 7:00 a.m.-7:00p.m.
