TMS Aluminum Cast Shop Science & Technology Course (Cast Shop 19)

The 2019 Aluminum Cast Shop Science and Technology Course (Cast Shop 19) is an intensive five-day professional development opportunity focused on key cast shop processes for primary and secondary aluminum smelters. The course will teach participants ways to solve problems in their own cast shops, while demonstrating techniques used in plants around the world. This will enable attendees to achieve economic production of high quality products in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. This course will feature:

  • Proven methods to address industrial challenges
  • Leading experts in the field who share techniques that work, based on their extensive experience
  • Small group sessions, networking activities, and a tour of the Aluminium of Greece plant

What You Will Learn

Focused exclusively on cast shop technologies and advancements, with a focus toward operations, this five-day immersive course will cover the science and technology of key cast shop processes. Customer requirements and cast shop economics will provide context for defining cast shop objectives. Specific topics to be covered include:

  • Cast Shop Safety
  • Liquid Preparation
  • Direct Chill (DC) Casting
  • Chain Conveyor Ingot Process
  • Science and Practice of Homogenization of Extrusion Billets and Rolling Slabs, Including Defects
