TMS 2009: ANSWER Tutorial Series: Neutron and Synchrotron Scattering 101 for Structural Materials Researchers
Date: Sunday, February 15 • 1 to 5 p.m.

The application of neutron and synchrotron scattering in studying engineering materials becomes increasingly important because of its unique ability to provide the microscopic information concerning the microstructural features and mechanical behaviors of advanced materials and composites.

COURSE DETAILS

This tutorial is supported by the National Science Foundation, International Materials Institutes Program (DMR-0231320): Advanced Neutron Scattering netWork for Education and Research (ANSWER) on Mechanical Behavior of Materials at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Fundamentals of neutron and synchrotron scattering studies
  • Neutron and synchrotron scattering facilities at different facilities
  • Combined neutron/synchrotron and mechanical behavior/microstructure studies
  • Deformation and fracture
  • Analysis of complex, nanocrystalline materials

Course Instructors:

  • Dr. Hahn Choo, Associate Professor, University of Tennessee
  • Dr. Takeshi Egami, Distinguished Scientist, University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  • Dr. Camden Hubbard, Group Leader, Diffraction and Thermophysical Properties Group, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  • Dr. Peter Liaw, Professor and Ivan Racheff Chair of Excellence, University of Tennessee
  • Dr. Xun-Li Wang, Group Leader, Neutron Scattering Science Division, Spallation Neutron Source, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

How to Register for this Course
Register by January 16, 2009 using the online registration form or download the Registration Form (PDF) and mail or fax with your payment. The cost for this course is $100 for members / $25 for students* / $125 for nonmembers.
