Daniel Miracle is a senior scientist in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). As a member of the AFRL Research Advisory Council, he advises on the strategies, policies, and workforce development for a staff of more than 3,400 scientists and engineers. His research has covered nickel-based superalloys and intermetallic compounds for high-temperature aerospace structures; metal-matrix composites for structural applications; advanced aluminum alloys for cryogenic components; and boron-modified titanium alloys for improved processibility. His current research includes basic studies of the atomic structure of amorphous metals and the exploration of complex, concentrated alloys.

Miracle earned a bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering from Wright State University, and a master's degree and Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering from The Ohio State University. He has also received an Honorary Doctor of Science from the Institute of Metal Physics, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Ukraine. He is a 2018 TMS Fellow; a Fellow of ASM International; a Fellow of AFRL; and an Honorary Member of the Indian Institute of Metals.

A TMS member since 1986, Miracle has co-organized several TMS symposia and has served as a member of the TMS High Temperature Alloys Committee, the Composite Materials Committee, the Materials and Society Committee, and the Program Committee. His TMS leadership roles include secretary, vice-chair, and chair of the Composite Materials Committee; member of the ad hoc Technical Structure Advisory Committee; and vice-chair of the Structural Materials Division. He is author or co-author of more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles and seven book chapters, and is co-editor of six books.
