TMS members fluent in more than one language can serve as translators to assist TMS in better communicating with our international audience of scientists and engineers. Translators can (1) assist onsite at TMS conferences to help international attendees when they arrive at Registration and/or (2) translate messages for TMS communications right from their office, such as e-mails going out to an international audience. TMS is a global organization, and we want all of our members to feel at home with our society. Assistance from our members in this area is valuable and appreciated.
Why Should You Volunteer as a TMS Translator?
By serving as a translator, you can:
- Help international colleagues feel more at home while traveling to TMS meetings or when reading TMS communications
- Expand your global network of science and engineering colleagues
- Become engaged with TMS in an ad hoc role without a large time commitment
Time Commitment
The time commitment varies, from taking fifteen minutes to translate a TMS communication to spending a few hours assisting on-site at a TMS conference. TMS will notify you when relevant translation services are needed, and you can opt in or out of any translation request.
How to Get Started
Interested TMS members should contact TMS Volunteerism Staff and let us know your name, basic contact information, and the languages you speak fluently. Your name would then be added to a list that TMS will maintain for when these types of services are needed or requested.
