Team and Role Overview:
Relativity seeks a highly talented Materials Technician to join a rapidly growing space startup. Our mission is to change the way rockets are built and flown—you will be assisting in increasing the organization and print capabilities of our printers. On a day to day, you will be working closely with our Materials Team to plan and execute builds. You will be reporting directly to the CTO, Jordan Noone.
The Mission/Outcomes and Objectives:
Your main objective is to take ownership of the DMLS maintenance and build operation, while maintaining supplies required to execute the builds.  A major component of this role will also be to streamline process planning, finalizing SOPs and work order tracking for the DMLS operations. Additionally, you will be providing support for metallography, materials characterization, and DED 3D printing operations.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will have experience operating a DMLS machine or other metal powder based printing machine. This means that you may have had exposure to 3D printing software, and mechanical testing of samples. Collaboration is also crucial in this role—excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. 

Minimum Required Skills and Competencies
- Experience operating a DMLS machine or other metal based powder based printing machine 
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
- Basic knowledge of metal manufacturing processes
- Hardware maintenance and upkeep
- Experience with mechanical testing—from sample preparation, set up, and data collection

Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Experience with 3D printing software
- 3+ years of experience operating metal DMLS or DED 3D printers
- Experience with 3D printing software
- Experience with Laser and Arc Welding processes
- Experience with optical microscopes or other materials testing tools

The Department of Physics, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), invite applications to fill an Endowed Distinguished Chair in the Natural Sciences, a tenured faculty position at the full professor level. The Chair will hold a joint appointment in the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry. The emphasis of this search is to strengthen our efforts in experimental materials and condensed matter research within both departments. The anticipated starting date is Fall 2019. A further expansion in this area is anticipated with junior-level hires to follow the successful completion of this search.

The materials and condensed matter research faculty affiliated with the Departments of Physics and Chemistry at UIC conduct experimental and theoretical research on a wide range of functional, complex materials, including energy-relevant, topological, and strongly-correlated systems. The department offers BS, MS, MEng, and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) in the College of Engineering. The department educates students in the fundamental science and engineering principles relevant to materials, emphasizing the relationships between processing, nano/microstructure, characterization, properties, processing and design of advanced materials. The program trains students in the experimental and computational skills for a professional career, graduate study and advanced research in MSE. Positions are typically part-time.
