Scope: Over the years, much effort has been made to improve the aluminum production process to reduce the specific energy consumption and resulting emissions in conjunction with the continuous increase of its production intensity. This topic aims at presenting advances and future challenges for the aluminum production process in reducing greenhouse gases emissions including perfluoro-carbons, specific energy consumption, and energy recovery technologies.
