Scope: External fields, e.g., electric field, magnetic field, microwave field, ultrasound field, and their combined fields, are receiving increasing attention due to their impressive advantages for metallurgical and materials processing. This special topic explores the recent computational and experimental advances in characterizing the interactions between materials and external fields. This includes, but is not limited to, the efforts on modeling and measurement of properties related to the fields and development of novel theories and techniques for determining both phase and microstructural transformations under the influence of external fields.
