The TMS Bladesmithing program makes such concepts as heat transfer, coke combustion, forging, welding, and quenching come to life for university students majoring in a minerals, metals or materials discipline. The centerpiece of TMS Bladesmithing is a hotly contested competition, held every other year at the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition, that challenges student teams from around the world to produce a blade by hand hammering or trip hammer forging. In alternative years, students have the opportunity to present their current work on bladesmithing topics at the TMS Bladesmithing Symposium, also held at the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition.
