Alejandro Strachan to Give Young Leader Tutorial Luncheon Lecture
Talk Focuses on Materials Modeling

Posted February 11, 2009

Young LeadersAlejandro Strachan, the TMS 2008 Early Career Faculty Fellow, will present the 2009 Young Leader Tutorial Luncheon Lecture on Monday, February 16, at the TMS 2009 Annual Meeting in San Francisco. His talk focuses on predictive, atomic, and molecular materials modeling.

Strachan’s talk, "Atomistic and Mesoscale Modeling of Materials: Towards Predictive Tools for Materials Design," describes the fast growth and recent breakthroughs in materials modeling that has a potential to play an increasingly important role in the understanding of materials and the design, optimization, and certification of new materials with improved performance. He will explain the efforts that have been made to make the tools available to students, educators, and researchers via the World Wide Web.

"We believe this significantly increases the impact that modeling and simulations has in materials science and engineering and also helps with the formation of a new generation of materials scientists and engineers who feel comfortable at atomic or molecular scales," he said.

As the TMS 2009 Early Career Faculty Fellow, Strachan is required to present the 2009 Young Leaders Tutorial Luncheon Lecture and to organize a technical symposium for the 2010 TMS Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington.

For more information on Strachan’s talk visit the Special Lectures page on the TMS 2009 Annual Meeting web site. Advanced registration is required for the boxed lunch.
