AluminumTMS 2009: Aluminum Program
February 15-19, 2009 • San Francisco, California

Covering all aspects of aluminum production and use, from extraction of bauxite to aluminum reduction to application of alloys, the aluminum program brings together representatives from the world’s largest aluminum-producing companies to discuss the latest developments in the field.

The Aluminum 2009 program will include the following symposia:

  • Alumina and Bauxite
    This symposium will cover key issues related to alumina and bauxite production, such as fundamentals, chemistry and operational improvements in the Bayer process. [MORE]
  • Aluminum Cold Rolling and Strip Processing
    Learn about cold rolling process related issues from the hot rolled coil or plate to the cold rolled strip, sheet or foil of aluminum alloys. [MORE]
  • Aluminum Hot Rolling
    Hear presentations about hot rolling process related issues from the ingot to the hot rolled coil or plate of aluminum alloys. [MORE]
  • Aluminum Alloys: Fabrication, Characterization, and Applications
    All aspects of the physical and mechanical metallurgy of aluminum alloys will be presented at this symposium. [MORE]
  • Aluminum Reduction Technology
    Attendees will hear about the latest developments in aluminum reduction at this symposium with a focus on the cell. [MORE]
  • Cast Shop for Aluminum Production
    A variety of subjects important to the cast shop are discussed in this symposium, including charge materials, pre-furnace treatment, melting, and environmental issues. [MORE]
  • Electrode Technology for Aluminum Production
    Attendees will learn about advances not only in carbon technology but also in electrode materials and fabrication technologies. [MORE]
  • General Abstracts: Light Metals Division
    Presentations range from aluminum as windings in transformers to selenium treatment technologies. [MORE]

  • Alumina Refinery Fundamentals and Practice
    This course provides an overview of the Bayer alumina process and fundamentals of alumina calcination, process design criteria, and operational and maintenance requirements for large calciners in the alumina industry. [MORE]
  • Aluminum Metal Treatment
    This short course will address both the theoretical and practical aspects of metal treatment. [MORE]

SPECIAL EVENTS
  • Light Metals Networking Reception
    Join colleagues and meet other attendees with an interest in light metals, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, to view posters and network. 
  • Aluminum Plenary Session
    This plenary session will focus on current economic conditions and include speakers from top aluminum companies around the world. Confirmed speakers to date include: Galdino Claro, Chief Executive Officer, Aleris Americas, and Dick Evans, Executive Director and Chief Executive, Rio Tinto Alcan.
  • Light Metals Division Luncheon Lecture
