Computational Materials ScienceTMS 2009: Computational Materials Science and Engineering Program
February 15-19, 2009 • San Francisco, California

An area that TMS has taken a lead role in developing, computational materials science and engineering has potential applications in both industry and education.

Programming will look at how open source tools can be used in materials research and engineering, at the progress that has been made in computational materials science and engineering education, and at synergies between computational and experimental materials science.

PLANNED SYMPOSIA

The Computational Materials Science and Engineering 2009 program will include the following symposia:

  • Computational Thermodynamics and Kinetics
    This symposium will focus on computational thermodynamics and kinetics of microstructural evolution in materials during processing and in service. [MORE]
  • Open Source Tools for Materials Research and Engineering
    This symposium will reveal new developments in open source software geared particularly toward solving problems in materials science. [MORE]
  • Progress in Computational Materials Science and Engineering Education
    Learn about best practices for developing and using computational methods in materials curricula. [MORE]
  • Synergies of Computational and Experimental Materials Science
    Hear about recent successes enabled by close collaboration of experimentalists and computational materials scientists. [MORE]

SPECIAL EVENTS
  • Synergies of Computational and Experimental Materials Science Reception
    Join colleagues and meet other attendees with an interest in computational materials science, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, to view posters and network.

  • Young Leaders Tutorial Luncheon Lecture
    Attend this special lecture as TMS Early Career Faculty Fellow Award winner Alejandro Strachan of Purdue University presents "Atomistic and Mesocscale Modeling of Materials: Towards Predictive Tools for Materials Design."
