Taylor Sparks to Deliver TMS Plenary at MS&T25

Taylor Sparks, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Utah, will deliver the TMS Plenary Lecture at Materials Science & Technology 2025 (MS&T25). His talk, “Making Materials Science Go Viral!”, will explore how digital media—particularly video, podcasts, and online publishing—can be leveraged to communicate materials science more effectively to broader audiences. Drawing on a decade of experience that includes co-hosting the Materialism podcast, producing educational YouTube content, serving as Editor-in-Chief of Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation, and contributing to science outreach projects such as the Discovery Channel’s Diesel Brothers, Sparks will present real-world strategies for making scientific communication more engaging and accessible. His plenary talk will provide practical tools for students, researchers, educators, and science communicators interested in expanding the reach and impact of their work through modern storytelling platforms.
