Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at TMS

A more diverse and inclusive workplace benefits everyone—individual scientists and engineers, entire organizations, and the materials science and engineering profession as a whole. That’s why TMS has made it a priority to create opportunities for learning and sharing knowledge and experiences in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, while providing information and resources that can be applied in the workplace or everyday life. Whether you wish to connect with others addressing the same issues you are, access free online resources or find inspiration to continue the work, TMS can help.

TMS Diversity Statement

The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) is committed to advancing diversity in the minerals, metals, and materials professions, and to promoting an inclusive professional culture that welcomes and engages all who seek to contribute to the field. TMS recognizes that a diverse minerals, metals, and materials workforce is critical to ensuring that all viewpoints, perspectives, and talents are brought to bear in addressing complex science and engineering challenges. To build and nurture this diverse professional community, TMS welcomes and actively engages the participation of underrepresented groups in all of its initiatives and endeavors.

TMS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Toolkit

The TMS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Toolkit was created thanks to donations in 2014 as a space to collect, archive, and retain learnings and content from DMMM Summits and other TMS DEI committee items. Given the emergence of curations on the leading science, research, best practices, and training in the DEIJ space by DEIJ experts, this toolkit, which was maintained largely by TMS volunteers, was archived in 2024. All information created during those 10 years remains available, but the material is no longer being curated, and web links are not routinely checked for continued accuracy. TMS, which is a society made up of experts and professionals in minerals, metals, and materials, is committed to ensuring that our society is a leader in inclusion, equity, and social justice in the materials profession. As such, we encourage those looking for the newest information and best practices in the DEIJ space to utilize the below links on resources continually curated by DEIJ experts and professionals.
